BREAKING BENJAMIN: DARK BEFORE DAWN

WHAT’S UP NATION1?

It’s time for another review and this time we are looking at one of my favorite band’s, BREAKING BENJAMIN. After years of waiting Benjamin Burnley is back with a new line up and a new album. Was it worth the wait? Well let’s not waist anymore time and check out BREAKING BENJAMIN’S DARK BEFORE DAWN.

Breaking Benjamin; Dark Before Dawn

Its no secret that Breaking Benjamin fans are devoted to this band and have been waiting patiently with little to no complaints. So when little teasers started popping up on Facebook it got their fans attention. The new line up consists of Jasen Rauch (guitar, originally from Red); Keith Wallen (guitar and backing vocals, originally from Adelitas Way); Aaron Bruch (bass and backing vocals); and Shaun Foist (drums, originally from Picture Me Broken). I have been a Breaking Benjamin fan for a long time and I gotta say….this new line up does no disappoint. This still feels like the same band I fell in love with and I can’t wait to hear them play older Breaking Benjamin songs.

The album itself is great. It feels a bit like their older material but considering how long they were on hiatus for, I’m not surprised. Plus I think it’s important to slowly ease their way back into the music scene. In fact before they started doing full on rock tours they actually acoustic tours to get themselves (and their fans) ready. So although I would like to see them pick up where they had left off, i’m not complaining. It has that classic Breaking Benjamin feel but still has that touch of something fresh and new. One of my favorite songs is Ashes Of Eden. I’m a firm believer that less is more and this song uses minimal accompaniment but MAN DOES IT PACK A PUNCH. Both musically and lyrically. Ben’s voice just soars over the string section plus you can grasp the emotions he’s expressing. You can really feel the authenticity. Some of my other favorite tracks are Failure, Angels Fall, Breaking The Silence and Bury Me Alive. This album gets an 8/10. Welcome back Breaking Benjamin. We have missed you. They are currently on tour promoting this album and you can check them out at these cities.

LINDEMANN: SKILLS IN PILLS

WHATS UP NATION!?

I recently picked up the debut album from LINDEMANN Skills In Pills. Featuring Till Lindemann of Rammstein and multi-instrumentalist and Peter Tagtgren. Let’s take a look at this new album.

SKILLS IN PILLS

Let’s get one thing straight, this is no RAMMSTEIN 2.0 the writing while still industrial is completely different and so is the song structure. Rammstein songs usually consists of one or two riffs but Lindemann is much bigger. Till also sings in english. He speaks it quite well but still has his German accent which I actually like. It adds to the erie vibe of the music. The only thing that feels off to me is that almost all the songs are about some kind of sexual thing and after a while it just comes off a little awkward. Granted Till is a shock rock artist so maybe that was the point but if the sex songs were spaced out it would easier to deal with. All and all the album is still worth getting and I give it a 7 out of 10. Congrats Lindemann.
